Every bank and broker agreed: I was a walking red flag. I got rejected with the cold indifference usually reserved for telemarketers. "Impossible," they said.

I called him, emotionally preparing for my 40th consecutive "no." Instead... he actually listened. He didn't see a doomed file; he saw a challenge. He radiated so much "we-can-do-this" energy I honestly wondered if he'd just shotgunned six Red Bulls.
